BRAIN INJURY - THE "SIGNATURE WOUND" OF MODERN WARFARE

There has been a tremendous increase in the number of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) since the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in Afghanistan. Personalized support and guidance from our Family Support Specialists is available. Family/Community Support Specialists work at offices located throughout the state. Our Specialists provide individualized information, education, support and advocacy to, with and on behalf of individuals with TBI and their families. Services are delivered by phone and/or in the individual's home and community. Click the link below for more information about BIAF’s Family & Community Support Program.

All resources are provided free of charge to persons with brain injuries and their families who request information. Anyone who might benefit from our support services, educational materials, or other resource information is encouraged to participate in our organization.

BrainLine National multimedia project offering information and resources about preventing, treating, and
living with TBI. BrainLine is a service of WETA, flagship public television/radio station in the nation's capital.

The Center of Excellence for Medical Multimedia (CEMM) Traumatic Brain Injury Website Provides an informative and sensitive exploration of TBI, including information for patients, family members, and caregivers. Topics include types and symptoms of brain injury, TBI treatment and recovery, and helpful insights about the potential long-term effects of brain injury.

The Military Family Network Works with community organizations, local governments and businesses
networking them together as one. We are inviting all communities to come onboard to support the families of our Armed Services.

Military Pathways Free, anonymous mental health and alcohol self-assessments for family members and
service personnel in all branches including the National Guard and Reserve.

National Center for Health And Technology The National Center for Telehealth and Technology (T2)
researches, develops, evaluates, and deploys new and existing technologies for Psychological Health (PH) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) across the Department of Defense (DoD).

National Resource Directory The National Resource Directory (NRD) is an online tool for wounded, ill and
injured Service Members, Veterans, their families, and those who support them. The NRD provides access to more than 11,000 services and resources at the national, state and local levels that support recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration.

Paralyzed Veterans Association:  The Paralyzed Veterans Association of Florida is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of veterans with a spinal cord injury or dysfunction (SCI/D) and other persons with disabilities to achieve maximum health, productivity and self-esteem in their daily lives.

Remind.org After sustaining a brain injury from a roadside bomb in Iraq, Bob Woodruff, journalist for ABC News, became committed to assisting injured service members and their families. In January of 2008, the Bob Woodruff Foundation was established as a voice to call for support in assisting injured service members and their families.
